Egg Tempera

Before oil painting arrived, around 1490, icon painters and figurative artists such as Botticelli used this delicate and painstaking medium. Pure artists pigment is ground into a painting medium prepared from fresh eggs. The technique is valued for rendering brilliant, luminous colour.
